Connie Granja, About Me

Even after being a professional photographer for over 6 years, the sweet smell of newborns gets me every time. The reality is, I absolutely love motherhood and babies.

The joy, the excitement, the anticipation, a mom's sweet baby bump, the newborn coos, a tiny baby so small in dad's big hands, big sister's gentle kiss, these are the portraits that take your breath away.... I love it all. Even after 8 years, I still can’t get over the fact that I have been trusted with preserving hundreds of maternity and newborn sessions!!

Like your wedding, the birth of your child is will be one of the most significant days in your life. It's a beautiful and wonderful time in your lives and it deserves to be documented. As a mother and as an artist, it thrills me to capture a family and to tell their story. It is truly my passion!

Before every newborn session begins, I take a moment and reflect on the new life that has entered this world. I know that while it may seem to these parents that they have years before their babies grow up, as a mom myself, I know all too well that the days are long but the years are short. I know how much this day will mean to them years from now. They will soon turn around and this baby that is so tiny in their arms right now will soon learn to say "mama", will be taking her first steps, will be starting kindergarten and loosing their first tooth... and before you know it, it's gone in a flash and she's driving off to college. Where does this time go? It does go by so fast. But for today, time will stand still. Today, it's still the beginning. These are the "remember when" days. And it would be an honor to capture it so you can hold on to these days forever.

We are a full service custom portrait studio.

From maternity gowns to professional makeup, we take care of everything.

I'm a mom too. I know pregnancy can be a crazy time in a mom’s life, with morning sickness (or all-the-time sickness, as it should really be called) the crazy hormones, the exhaustion of a heavy belly, not to mention all that you have to do to prepare for baby's arrival. When preparing for a session, the last thing I want to do is add to your to-do list. I want to create a session that is stress-free for moms where everything is taken care of as much we can. I believe it is part of my job as a photographer to not just show up and photograph you, but to help make session planning as smooth as possible. We know if we can take care of everything for you beforehand, you'll be less stressed when you arrive and that in turn makes it that much easier to capture beautiful, authentic smiles and honest connection between you and your family.

Connie Granja Photography - Access to Client Wardrobe

We know finding something to wear can be the most overwhelming part of a session - which is why for sessions that take place at the studio, we offer beautiful dresses and maternity gowns for moms to choose from. We have collected lovely, flowy dresses that we know will photograph beautifully and are flattering on women.

For your newborn, we have a variety of wraps, newborn headbands, soft blankets and baby bonnets so you don't have to bring any outfits for baby. We also carry a selection of dresses for older sisters.

Detailed Wardrobe Consultation

We also offer a Detailed Wardrobe Consultation for all other participants in your session, for husbands and older children. We go over everything in detail about what photographs well and what colors would be ideal.

Once we have a few outfit ideas discussed, I am available by phone or text if you are out shopping and you want to run ideas by me. Once you have your outfits picked out, you can send me the final layout of all of the outfits together and I give any last minute suggestions to make sure your outfits are cohesive and that they will be ideal for the environment we will be in.

My clients find that having someone to bounce ideas off of really helps them feel more confident with what they are wearing and they end up loving the resulting images even more after the session!

Connie Granja Photography - Professional Makeup

We want you to be pampered and feel beautiful for your session - that is why we offer professional makeup as an add-on to any session. For our Signature Maternity Sessions, we include a complimentary makeup appointment as part of your session. We only work with experienced local artists that are familiar with our style of photography and know exactly how to apply makeup for this type of photography session.

Connie Granja Photography - Guided Posing

I’ve been photographing babies and families since 2011 and I specialize in photographing moms from the most flattering angles, positioning babies into safe and adorable poses that are sweet and memorable, as well as capturing them with parents. I guide you every step of the way so you don’t have to worry about what to do in front of the camera.

To avoid your portraits from looking too stiff and unnatural, my approach is to position you in the best light, guide you into a flattering pose and then let you interact from there. This helps me capture more natural expressions and lets me capture the authentic connection between you and your family.

Once a session has been reserved, we schedule a Pre-Session Design Consultation phone call where we go over everything beforehand. We discuss what to bring, how to prepare children for the session, and how the session will flow so you know exactly what to expect and you can plan accordingly. We also talk about what ideas you have in mind and your vision for the session, so we can make sure to capture what is most important to you.

The day of your session, our Client Wardrobe will be available to you for you to select from our maternity gowns and dresses. Then the fun begins! We will begin photographing you and your family and we will guide you every step of the way.

About 2-3 weeks after your session, we will meet again for your in-person Ordering Appointment. It’s a lot of fun and is the highlight of your experience with us! Here is where all your images will be revealed in a custom slideshow set to music. I love seeing my clients reactions to their images, it’s truly the most rewarding part of what I do. All images presented to you have been edited individually to a magazine-quality standard. All that’s left is to decide what you would like to do with your images and how you might want to treasure them. My background is in art and graphic design and I have a talent for creating custom album layouts and piecing together gallery walls. I truly believe family portraiture is the most beautiful and personalized art pieces you can be proud to feature in your home.
